Slaves vs. Free States

  • They thought that the need for cotton would end the war.
  • Brit's were anti-slavery.
  • 1/2 million were killed and/or wounded.
  • 60% of the fighting took place in Virgina.

 

1st Bull Run

  • July 21, 1861
  • South lost 460 people, their leaders were Stonewell Jackson and Buearegard.
  • North lost 387 people, their leader was McDowell.
  • South won.

 

2nd Bull Run

  • South lost 9,000 people.
  • North lost 16,000 people.
  • South won.

 

Stonewall Jackson

  • Leader for the South.
  • His reputation was greater then any other Civil War general.
  • Out numbered and crushed the enemy in Chacellorville.

 

Antietam or Sharpsburg, Maryland

  • South won.
  • More casulities occured then any other average war.

 

Battle of Fredericksburg

  • December 13th through the 15th, 1862.
  • South won.

 

Chancellorville

  • May 1st through May 14th, 1863.
  • South won.

 

Jackson

  • Was shot three times by his own men.

Hooker

  • Was killed by his own troops.  June 1863 Brandy Station.

 

Battle of Gettysburg Pennsylvania

  • July 1st - 3rd 1863.
  • North won.

 

November 19, 1863. Linicoln gave Gettysburg Address.

October 1864.  North burns the "Valley."

April 9th 1865,  Appomatt of Court House.
